Abbeys Cathedrals Churches

Ancient monuments: ruined, redundant, little used, but testaments to spiritual endeavour and searching. I live two miles from Byland Abbey, Rievaulx Abbey a little further, but still in walking distance. The church opposite my cottage includes the remains of a Saxon Cross and a Norman font. I am moved by such things.
